Pinehurst is not limited to golf. The historic towns of Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen offer numerous other activities including unique shopping, equestrian events, spas, pottery trails, gardens, historic sites and tours, and exceptional antiquing. Most area restaurants are independently owned, providing a unique dining experience.

 


Equestrian

Pinehurst Harness Track: A 111 acre training facility owned by Pinehurst and located a short walk from the condo. Check The Pilot newspaper or call the Harness Track for a complete list of events.

Carolina Horse Park at Five Points: Carolina Horse Park provides premier international and national equestrian events building on the Carolina's rich and longstanding equine industry. In turn, Carolina Horse Park strives to preserve the region's open space and to protect the use of our land and resources.

Horseback Riding: McClendon Hills Equestrian Center offers Horseback Riding for visitors. No children under 8 allowed. Cost: $50 per person for 2 1/2 hour ride. Pony Rides are available for children 8 and under. Riding Lessons are available for children 7 and up.  910-673-4971
 

Pottery
North Carolina Pottery Center: Opened in 1998, the NC Pottery Center's permanent exhibits trace the history and development of NC pottery from the prehistoric Native Americans to the present. Changing exhibits throughout the year focus on various topics of both historic traditions and contemporary work by the state's potters. 

Seagrove Pottery: Come and discover more than 90 potteries in a 20-mile area. Meet eighth and ninth generation potters in a place rich with a 200-year old tradition. Browse and linger here now. Then turn a day into the same in Seagrove.
 
Asheboro Zoo
Located about 75 miles west of Raleigh in Asheboro, N.C. Zoo is nationally recognized as one of the nation’s finest zoos. It was the first American zoo designed from its inception around the "natural habitat" philosophy--presenting animals and plants in exhibits that closely resemble the habitats in which they would be found in the wild. 800-488-0444

Ft. Bragg & Pope Airforce Base
This Army/Air Force duo comprise one of the world's largest military complexes. Ft. Bragg (largest Army base east of the Mississippi) is open to the public. Before you go, call about self or guided tours, (910) 396-5401 or 396-8015

Sandhills Bowling: Smoke-free bowling alley just 5 minutes from the condo. 910-295-9610.

Ninth of September: Be creative and paint your own pottery. Located in the historic village of Southern Pines. 910-695-9063.

Cypress Bend Vineyards: Enjoy the patio of the winery, unwind and take a stroll through the vines or sip a glass of wine while enjoying some tasty treats offered in the retail shop. The winery is open Monday - Friday, Noon - 6 pm, Saturday 10-6 pm and Sunday, Noon - 6 pm.  910-369-0411.

Malcolm Blue Farm: Built around 1825, this antebellum farm has been recognized by the National Register of Historic Places for authenticity and uniqueness.  Special annual events at the Malcolm Blue Farm include the Historic Crafts and Skills Festival the last weekend of September and the Early American Christmas. 910-944-7558

Pinehurst Fair Barn: The Fair Barn is the oldest surviving early 20th century fair exhibition hall in North Carolina. It was built in 1917 for use at the Sandhill Fair, one of the major county fairs in the Southeast from 1915 through 1925. The Fair Barn has been recently restored and is now a multipurpose community gathering place for exhibitions, receptions, private parties, auctions, educational clinics, business seminars, concerts, art & antiqu shows, and many other functions. 910-295-0166.

Theatres
Sandhills Cinemas: Sandhills Cinemas is a 10-theatre facility with stadium seating, digital surround sound and a full concession stand that shows the latest releases.

Sunrise Theatre: The Sunrise Theater is situated amidst the magnolias and long-leaf pines on Broad Street in Southern Pines, North Carolina.  The building, erected in 1898, began as a hardware store. In the 1940s, the building became a movie theatre. In 1998 The Arts Council of Moore County (ACMC) gave the historic theatre a new lease on life.  It is now host to wonderful movies (Sunflix), music, plays and special events. 910-692-3611 or 910-692-8501
